Services are usually covered in full or in part by your health insurance or EAP plan. If you have mental health benefits, in most cases you are only responsible for your co-pay or co-insurance. If you use a provider that is in your insurance network, the provider is required to accept the contracted amount, plus any copay or co-insurance that is the responsibility of the insured.
Insurance
I am in network with many of the major carriers, including Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Healthcare Payers, Horizon, Magellan, MagnaCare, Medicare, Oxford, Qualcare, TRICARE, and United Behavioral Health, among others. If I am not in your network and you have out of network benefits, I will file a claim for you and accept the out of network allowable amount.
To determine your mental health coverage, you need to check with your insurance carrier. Here are a few questions to ask:
- What are my mental health benefits?
- How many sessions per year does my plan cover?
- Is this therapist in my network?
- If not, do I have out of network coverage?
- Is there a deductible?
- What is my copay?
- Do I need an authorization or referral?
